In May 2019, I was in the lucky position to join the Centre for Translation Studies as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor for Terminology Science and Translation Technology. I moved back to Vienna from Dresden, where I worked at the International Center for Computational Logic of the Technical University Dresden from November 2017 with Sebastian Rudolph. Prior to that I was a post-doc research fellow in Barcelona for two years in the ESSENCE Marie Curie Initial Training Network from November 2015 and worked with Marco Schorlemmer at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) as well as with other project partners.
Until October 2015, I was a research assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and completed my PhD in August 2015 at the University of Vienna under the supervision of Prof. Gerhard Budin. My background is in linguistics and computer science and I gathered some industrial experience with companies such as Siemens, Roche Diagnostics, and Berlitz, before returning to academia.
In my PhD thesis, I focused on integrating ontologies and terminologies. My interest in the broader topic persisted in form of ontology learning and learning structured knowledge utilizing deep learning methods, but I have added a strong interest in machine learning and cognitive theories. Specifically, I have been very interested in finding ways to use the former in order to automatically extract concepts of embodied cognition, called image schemas, from natural languages. In addition, I have been interested in alternative models of language representation in distributional space and the use of deep learning methods to this end.
